AP - New York. "Traditional Christianity has always assumed that three kings came to visit the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. But are we sure? This year, many churches are including at least one Queen in their holiday displays, musicals, and programs. 'We want all to feel welcome,' said Pastor Patty LeFleur, of Hopenchange United Methodist Church. 'Our Christmas Eve program this year will be as diverse as the world that welcome the Christ Child that night.' Hopenchange United Methodist Church will be dedicating their chancel remodel on the Sunday before Christmas. Their chancel was recently expanded to allow for all fifteen royal visitors expected to visit the baby Jesus during their heavily-attended Christmas Eve service."
Geoff: I have to agree. Certainly it's not the nicest set of vestments I've ever seen. But, it's one of the better ones that I have seen her wearing. Not sure what she's wearing around her neck, though. Is it a lei?
For her, this is certainly conservative... Merely ugly, and not completely ridiculous. Oh well, even she can have an off day.
I was bemused by ElephantsChild's quote from AP: "Traditional Christianity has always assumed that three kings came to visit ...". Of course, that's true, except for the three, or the kings. Scripture calls them magi or wise men, without counting them; Tertullian, a century or so later, said they were "almost as kings". And now queens, too, at the "Hopin'-for-change' Methodist Church...

In terms of bad vestments, Katharine Jefferts Schori is the gift that keeps on giving....

Looks like a pretty standard Gothic chasuble to me - hardly outrageous, least of all by ++Katharine's standards.

Around her neck? Looks like bling.
It's just that I took one look at this and the first thing that entered my mind was the RenFest.
What is that around her neck? A pontifical cord made out of macaroni shells?
Popcorn, I think. A few cranberries would be a nice touch.
Scarlet O'Hara wants her curtains back.
