It's coincidence that his vestments match the stone. He's actually wearing the old drapes from the living room that his wife rescued from the dumpster.
In the photo is Anders Wejryd, the Archbishop of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden. He does have some regrettable vestments, alas ... The Church of Sweden is a member of the Lutheran World Federation, and is not prescriptive when it comes to liturgical colours, though the "customary" western colours are often used.
This is the lutheran Archbishop of Uppsala Anders Wejryd (Church of Sweden) which have just ordained an opelnly gay women (living with another woman) as bishop. The same archbishop who supported (the bishops have no real power in the lutheran church of sweden, only politicans) the church of sweden redefining marrige, embracing also same-sex couples.
As a Swede I would say that most, if not all, use the traditional liturgical colours.
But there is some kind of sick tendency towards gray, light blue, light pink, tasteless and ugly designed vestments. Maybe it's because of their sick and tasteless theology?
Mr Platt: Wejryd is pronounced "Vay (as in "way", but with "v") "ry:d" ("y" is pronounced like the French "u" or the German "ΓΌ").

I'm not sure which is worse, his cope or the one behind him with the off-color stole.
As is so often asked on here - which liturgical colour is that meant to be?
Looks like Anglican to me - in which case there is no standard set of liturgical colors.
If not, however, silver vestments are permitted in place of white and (I beieve) green.
He's like a chameleon or an octopus - blending in with the environment.
Wow, bishop's camouflage! That's something our hierarchs in the AOCA could use.....

Church of Sweden. The woman in the bright blue cope has recently been elected Bishop.
As for why the mitred Bishop is wearing vestments that match the color of the Cathedral's stone....well, that's an interesting question.
What denomination is this where camouflage vestments and secret service guys are needed? The blue vested person is obviously a decoy....

Scott..the Scarlett O'Hara approach to vestments?
The Scarlett O'Hara approach! I like that.
I'm a Lutheran, and I'm thinking the Church of Sweden may not be prescriptive, or descriptive, of Lutheran theology either.
You´ve won!

Which is supposed to be the bad vestment? The bishop's or the one worn by the cleric behind him?

My Swedish is poor. How does one pronounce "Wejryd"?

Since sometimes bishops are buried in the cathedral, maybe he's just getting accustomed to the colors that will be part of his crypt.
