Dear God, thank you for allowing me to belong to the new Anglican Church of North America.
I agree they look odd on headless maneqquins, but in the interest of follow-up reporting, I have to say that I thought they looked quite spectacular on actual people at the altar in a very large setting with generally poor light.
They look like 70's choir robes.
If I were still in the Coast Guard, and sailed near someone wearing these vestments, I'd try to rescue them. It's clearly a distress signal.
Jennifer is right. I think these were based on the outfits Earth, Wind & Fire used to wear ;-)
I remember reading something about outfits like these being used at an auto-da-fé.
